Batches
Batches let you run a course as an instructor-led cohort — a group of students who go through the content together with a shared schedule, a defined instructor, and group announcements.
Create a batch
- Go to Courses → [Your Course] → Batches
- Click New Batch
- Fill in:
- Batch name — e.g. "March 2026 Cohort"
- Start date and End date
- Max students (optional capacity cap)
- Click Create
Enroll students in a batch
- Open the batch → Students tab
- Click Add Students and select from your existing students
- Students are automatically enrolled in the course when added to a batch
Assign instructors
Each batch can have multiple instructors with different roles.
- Open the batch → Instructors tab
- Click Add Instructor
- Search for a user by name or email
- Select their role:
- Lead Instructor — primary instructor; full visibility into all students
- Instructor — co-instructor with the same content access
- Teaching Assistant (TA) — supports grading and Q&A
- Mentor — one-to-one coaching role
- Click the user to add them
Instructors appear in the batch and receive access to the enrolled students' progress.
Post announcements
Announcements are visible to all students in the batch on their Batch Detail page.
- Open the batch → Announcements tab
- Click New Announcement
- Enter a title and content
- Toggle Pin to keep it at the top of the list
Students see pinned announcements first, then the rest in chronological order.
Batch vs. open enrollment
| Open Enrollment | Batch | |
|---|---|---|
| Start date | Whenever student enrolls | Fixed for all students |
| Pace | Self-paced | Cohort-based |
| Announcements | No | Yes |
| Instructor-led | Optional | Yes |
| Capacity limit | No | Optional |
You can run both models for the same course — some cohorts on a schedule, others as evergreen self-paced enrollment.
