AI Course Builder
The AI Course Builder is available on the Growth plan and above.
The AI assistant helps you draft course content faster. It does not publish anything automatically — all generated content is shown in a preview panel that you apply or discard.
What the AI assistant can do
| Capability | What it generates |
|---|---|
| Course outline | A module and lesson structure based on your topic |
| Lesson content | A full text lesson draft for a given lesson title |
| Quiz questions | 5–10 multiple-choice questions for a topic or lesson |
| Course description | A 2–3 paragraph course description for the catalog |
Opening the AI assistant
In the course editor, click the ✨ AI Assistant button in the top-right toolbar. A side panel opens with four tabs — one for each capability.
Using each tab
Course Outline
- Enter your course topic and target audience
- Optionally set the number of modules and estimated duration
- Click Generate Outline
- Review the suggested module and lesson titles
- Click Apply to Course to add the structure — existing modules are not overwritten; the new outline is appended
Lesson Content
- Navigate to the lesson you want to draft (the assistant reads the lesson title automatically)
- Optionally add a brief note about what to cover
- Click Generate Content
- Review the draft in the preview panel
- Click Insert into Lesson to populate the lesson editor, or Discard
You can edit the inserted content normally in the lesson editor before saving.
Quiz Questions
- Enter a topic or select an existing lesson to base questions on
- Set the number of questions (5 or 10)
- Click Generate Questions
- Review each question and its answer options; the correct answer is highlighted
- Click Add to Quiz to append the questions to an existing quiz lesson, or copy them individually
Course Description
- Enter your course topic and key learning outcomes (bullet points work well)
- Click Generate Description
- Review the output
- Click Apply to set it as the course description
The description generator works best when you list 3–5 specific outcomes, such as "students will be able to configure Nginx" rather than "students will learn about servers."
Credit usage
Each generation action uses credits from your monthly AI quota:
| Action | Credits used |
|---|---|
| Course outline | 5 |
| Lesson content | 3 |
| Quiz questions (5) | 2 |
| Quiz questions (10) | 4 |
| Course description | 2 |
Your remaining credits are shown at the bottom of the AI panel. Credits reset on the first of each month.
If the AI is unavailable
If the service is temporarily unavailable, the panel shows an error message and a Retry button. Your course content is not affected. Try again after a few minutes.
Data privacy
When you use the AI assistant, the lesson title and any notes you enter are sent to the Anthropic API to generate content. Do not enter student personal data or confidential information in the AI prompts. Generated content is not stored by Anthropic.
See Data Privacy & GDPR → for the platform's full data handling policy.
